Meera is a New York–born and raised, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter trained in jazz and Hindustani classical music. She began releasing music independently in 2019 and has been shaping her artistic voice with intention ever since. At 21, she moved to India to study classical music, a shift that quietly transformed her tone, phrasing, and compositional voice.

"Ready Set is a song I wrote after moving to Bombay. After realizing what it's like to really participate in the race. This song is a reminder to myself that sometimes it's not sustainable or possible to be first, second, or even third. It's me letting myself just be mad that the system is set up in a way that you sacrifice your physical and mental for the reward (that most often never comes)." - Meera Desai

Pardesi is the first season-based live music series from Compass Box Live Sessions, created to spotlight independent artists and original music from the Indian indie music scene. Each season features performances that document the sound of emerging artists in India and the voices shaping today’s indie music movement.

Season 01 begins with Tejas, one of India’s standout singer-songwriters. His track What Comes After is a haunting reflection on war, loss, and empathy in a world growing numb to violence and injustice. Both elegy and indictment, the song asks what we lose when compassion fades and whether it’s still possible to stay passionate for life.

Across this season, Pardesi will showcase indie originals from diverse voices — a document of the depth and creativity of independent music in India.

Utsavi Jha is a multifaceted artist from Mumbai. She composes, sings and writes lyrics for her independent Hindi and English music, as well as for music by other artists. Utsavi's multi-genre songs are lyrically driven, becoming a medium of storytelling for her, and making all her songs deeply personal.

Evenings are the most romantic time of the day when people find their way back to each other after a long day. Saanjh is a sweet love ballad for that special someone who fills the everyday ordinary mundane with extraordinary moments and love. It is about manifesting finding that right person that you want to come back home to that at the end of each day.

Ananya Sharma is a Singer-Songwriter and Composer based in Mumbai, India. Influenced by the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Becca Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Esperanza Spalding, and many more. Ananya is a versatile vocalist and songwriter, who paves her way through a diverse range of sounds and styles to tell her stories. Ananya has been an active part of the indie music scene with her own projects; She is a solo artist, one of three vocalists from the band Queendom, and the bandleader of her very own Collaborative Project, ‘Funan and Gang’.

Teardrops is a monologue about expressing vulnerability and… crying. This song is a memory of all the times I’ve treated my sensitivity, as my weakness. In this back and forth, I finally chose to accept it as my strength.

Formed in the True school of music, Queendom is a vocal trio, representing a delicate balance of individuality and cohesion. The band comprises Ananya Sharma, Brecilla D’souza and Damini Gautam; three stellar vocalists and co-writers. Queendom has been a versatile act delving into a variety of musical styles. Their repertoire ranges from Western popular and r&b, to uptempo jazz, to regional and Bollywood music as well.

Pussytalk is addressed to our sisters and woman-kind, urging us to have each other's backs. The songwriting is unapologetic, using satire to highlight our experiences as brown women. When we celebrate each other, we subvert the patriarchal expectation of 'tearing other women down.'
